BankPlus plans to make a move from its 2303 Eighth Street office to the former Southeastern Printing building on 22nd Avenue and Fourth Street.
The move will make way for a new downtown parking garage for the planned Riley Education and Performing Arts Center. BankPlus was scheduled to close on the Southeastern Printing property on Thursday.
Stewart said BankPlus' investment in the building and renovation will total about $750,000. The bank plans to renovate the property and convert it to a branch with a drive-through window.
The city of Meridian purchased property between Seventh and Eighth streets and 23rd and 24th avenues for $487,000. The city plans to build a $7 million, 500-car parking garage.
Dale and Associates of Jackson is designing the garage. BankPlus, Lawrence's Jewelry, Jack's Sandwich Shop, the Royal Theater and the old Troy building will be torn down for the development.
