Services for John Mortimer Johnson will be held today at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Revs. Jason Gross and Jimmy Gunn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson, 93, of Meridian, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in his home. He taught school in Neshoba and Lauderdale counties. Mr. Johnson served as principal of Suqualena High School and retired from West Lauderdale High School. He taught a total of 37 years.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association, a deacon and Sunday school teacher, treasurer of Macedonia Baptist Church for 45 years, past master of Suqualena Masonic Lodge, past patron of Suqualena Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his daughter, Annette Palmer and her husband, Randell, a son, Joe Johnson and his wife, Robin, all of Suqualena; grandchildren, Lloyd Palmer of Oklahoma City, Randy Palmer of Pascagoula, Greg Johnson of Hattiesburg and Sarah Johnson of Ashland, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Jane Townsend of Collinsville and Pat Bounds of Bay Minette, Ala.; sisters, Lurline Cook of Meridian, Lillian Rhodes of Philadelphia, Lucile Reeves and her husband, Bill, of Meridian, Sula Marsalis and her husband, Wilton, of Meridian; his care giver, Lena Culpepper; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cora Thompson Johnson; his wife of 62 years, Pauline Johnson; his wife of seven years, Mildred Johnson; brothers, Lamar Johnson and Walter Martin Johnson; and a sister, Zula Williamson.
Pallbearers will be Greg Johnson, Lloyd Palmer, Randy Palmer, Kyle Palmer, Brett Palmer, Dr. Bo Marsalis, Gary Marsalis and Jimmy Chandler.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the senior men's Sunday school class at Macedonia Baptist Church.
BEN FRANK CARPENTER
Carpenter
Services for Ben Frank Carpenter will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at Chunky Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carpenter, 86, of Chunky, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Meridian. He served as a deacon of Chunky Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the good conduct medal, the American Defense service medal and the EAMETO medal. He retired from the Russell ANACONDA Corp.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Cleve Ferguson Sr. of Chunky and Bobby Frank Carpenter and his wife, Mary, of Brandon; a daughter, Clara Sue Shirley and her husband, Roger, of Chunky; a sister, Grace Lummus of Meridian; a brother, Andrew Billy Carpenter of Meridian; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cully and Lillian Carpenter; and a son, Curtis A. Ferguson Sr.
Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Gressett, Dwayne Reynolds, Danny Clark, Johnny Clark, Donald Jones, John Waters, Covert Dean and David Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Chunky Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Services for Millie Gunn Butler will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim Meadows, Sammy Brister and Steve Winstead officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Butler, 73, of Toomsuba, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Guardian Angel Hospice.
Survivors include a daughter, Lee Butler; a son, Nolan Butler Jr., both of Toomsuba; two sisters, Bernice G. Rawson of Meridian and Mattie Sue G. Meacham and her husband, Dan, of Scooba; two step grandchildren, Debbie Hauguewood and her husband, Ted and their children of Germany and Henry Butler and his wife, Stephanie and their children of Philadelphia; six nieces; four nephews; and two special friends, Morgan and Hilda Watson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Butler.
Pallbearers will be Billy Stuckey, Trent Butler, Marty Harper, Danny Cherry, Gary Dennis and Larry Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Watson, Johnny Mars, Robert Earl Neal, Pap Culpepper, Ben Dearman and Ronald Powell.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Diabetes Association and the funeral expense.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
JAMES STEPHENS
Services for James Stephens will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Clark's Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roosevelt Clark officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Kemper County.
Mr. Stephens, 66, of Bailey, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Stephens of Bailey; four sons, Tyrone Stephens, Omar Stephens, Barry Stephens and his wife Gene and Reginald Stephens and his wife Carol, all of Meridian; two daughters, Johnnie Stephens and Gloria Sheffield and her husband, Terry, both of Meridian; a brother, Willie James Stephens and his wife, Pat, of California; four sisters, Lola Yarrel and her husband, Roosevelt, Emma Young and Ernestine Stephens, all of California and Mary Giles of Michigan; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

QUITMAN Services for James Turner will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at James Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. Lannie Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in James Chapel Cemetery. Turner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Turner, 90, of Quitman, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Laurena Turner of Quitman; two sons, James Edward Turner and Richard Turner, both of Pensacola, Fla.; five daughters, Lula Mae Turner, Cheryl Bowden, Dorothy Jean Lee and Gracie Morris, all of Pensacola and Laine Turner of Quitman; two brothers, J.L. Turner of Hattiesburg and J.L. Turner of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Gracie Mae Esters of Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
