Adrian T. Mosley was chosen president-elect of the Mississippi Speech Language Hearing Association.
Mosley will serve in that position this year and become president in 2003. MSHA is the state organization for more than 600 audiologists and speech-language pathologists.
Mosley earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in speech language pathology from the University of Southern Mississippi.
She is a nationally board-certified teacher, having earned her "Certificate of Clinical Competence" in 1987. She has worked for Humphreys County schools, Meridian public schools, Meridian Community College and Lauderdale County schools.
She recently represented Lauderdale County schools at the American Speech Language Hearing Association Annual Convention in New Orleans.
Mosley's husband, Edward, is assistant superintendent of Lauderdale County Schools. The couple has three children.
Meridian Community College instructors Michele Smith and Barbara Bishop were recognized for their outstanding work and achievements by the Mississippi Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
They were honored at the Alliance's 33rd annual convention in Jackson.
Smith was recognized for her contribution to the work and programs of the Alliance, including service and leadership.
In addition to receiving the award, Smith was a presenter at the convention and was chosen vice president-elect for dance for the 2001-2002 school year. The position on the Alliance board is a two-year term; in 2002-2003, she will take over as vice president for dance.
Smith is currently the division chairman for wellness and fitness at MCC; she also is an instructor and the fitness center director. She works with Special Olympics, works with the State Games of Mississippi and has served on the Alliance's board in four different offices including president.
In addition, Smith was a co-author of the first edition curriculum guide used nationally by the American Heart Association.
Bishop received the Pride in Teaching Award from the Alliance because she had demonstrated leadership and excellence through creative, innovative teaching methods and teacher-student rapport.
Bishop, a 20-year MCC veteran and a wellness and fitness instructor, is sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has undertaken the sponsorship of programs that promote healthy lifestyles, including Hoops for Heart and The Great American Smokeout.
Also during the Alliance convention, Wade Heggie, MCC fitness center manager, served as a presenter and was tapped to serve as aquatics chairman-elect for the organization.
Meridian Community College Human Resource Coordinator Shellye Espey was elected secretary-treasurer for the College and University Personnel Association of Mississippi.
Human resource directors at community colleges, colleges and universities in Mississippi comprise the group.
Espey also is a charter member of the East Central Mississippi Human Resource Association and a committee member of Leadership Lauderdale for Youth Program.
Joseph Hime, a senior at Northeast Lauderdale High School, has been nominated to compete in the national Principal's Leadership Award scholarship program.
The program is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Herff Jones Inc. funds the Principal's Leadership Award program.
One-hundred-fifty national winners will be chosen this spring to receive $1,000 scholarships.
Nominees were selected based on their leadership skills; participation in service organizations and clubs; achievements in the arts and sciences; employment experience; and academic record.
Students are required to write an essay.
While at Northeast, Hime has been a member of the National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, Student Council and the Foreign Language Club. He also was selected for Who's Who Among American High School Students.
OXFORD Kris Aurelia Allen Lee of Meridian is among the fall 2001 initiates of Phi Kappa Phi academic honor society at the University of Mississippi.
Chartered at Ole Miss in 1959, Phi Kappa Phi is the university's highest academic honor society that recognizes scholarships in all academic disciplines.
Lee is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Allen. She is studying law at Ole Miss.
