A better location to continue a string of strong sales is on the minds of Cato staff as they prepare to join other local retail stores at Meridian's newest shopping center.
Maxine Thomas, store manager, said revenues have been strong, even in the wake of a weak economy and aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Better exposure, more space and an expiring lease in their current location are among the reasons for the move, Thomas said. After 12 years at its current location on Frontage Road, the grand opening at the new location next to Office Depot is scheduled for Jan. 30.
Among the changes are additions to the plus department, where Cato will feature sizes 26-28. Home apparel and shoe departments will remain intact and a selection of children's juniors and junior missy lines maybe added, Thomas said.
Business hours will be 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon-6:30 p.m. on Sundays, although that may be trimmed back to 6 p.m., Thomas said.
