Two area residents will serve on the overall steering committee for Mississippi Women's Conference 2002, set for March 20 at the Crown Plaza Hotel and focusing on women's issues.
Betty Tingle and Lois Cooper, both of Decatur, are serving on the committee. The day-long conference is expected to include speakers, exhibits and educational workshops.
The 7th annual conference celebrates women during National Women's History Month. It focuses on the power women have to make a difference in their community.
The conference is endorsed by the governor's office.
Rebecca Orr McKenzie of McComb was selected to serve as conference chairperson. McKenzie is the executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Pike County Farm Service Agency Office in Magnolia.
Joining her on a steering committee to plan this conference will be a diverse group of women from across the state.
Several Mississippi speakers and workshop moderators have been invited to the event. Entertainment, a luncheon, and door prizes are also included in the conference package.
Preregistration for the event costs $40 and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. On-site registration will also be offered for $50.
In addition, the Mississippi Women's Conference 2002 Honoree Selection Committee is currently seeking nominees to be recognized as a "Power of One" Honoree. Nominations must be received by Feb. 5.
