Nanih Waiya splits two on the road
The Nanih Waiya Lady Warriors took a 61-39 road win from French Camp on Saturday night. The win moves Nanih Waiya to 15-8 on the season.
Ashley Tew led the Lady Warriors with 23 points, while Jamie Jones scored 10.
In the boys game French Camp picked up 34 points from Christian Rojas and 29 from Will Jones to take the win.
Nanih Waiya was led by Brent Blackwell with a game-high 36 points, while David Frey knocked down 12.

MUW drops GSC game on road
VALDOSTA, Ga. The Mississippi University for Women basketball squad continued its road woes, dropping a 65-56 contest to Valdosta State Saturday afternoon at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga.
MUW falls to 6-8 overall and 0-4 in Gulf South Conference play. Valdosta State improves to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the GSC with both victories coming against the Blues. The loss marks MUW's fourth straight loss and third straight loss on the road.
Mandi Porter led the Blues with 14 points and six rebounds. Jennifer Spann added 11 points.
MUW will continue its road swing Monday when the squad travels to Pensacola to take on West Florida.

West Alabama wins again in league
LIVINGSTON, Ala. In a battle of two teams with unblemished GSC records, the University of West Alabama women's basketball team used a strong first-half performance to upend North Alabama 79-75 on Saturday. The win moved UWA's record to 4-0 in conference action, and marks the first time West Alabama has begun 4-0 in GSC play since the 1982-83 season.
The Tigers exploded in the first half, shooting 67.7 percent from the field en route to building a commanding 50-34 lead. True freshman Tausha Evans poured in 16 first-half points to lead all scorers. The Lions battled back in the second half, holding the Tigers to 39.1 percent shooting, while elevating its shooting to over 53 percent. However, UWA would never relinquish the lead on its way to the 11th win of the season.
Evans exploded for a career-high 31 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field and a 9-of-10 performance from the charity stripe. Junior forward Cameshia Pete connected on 7-of-8 shots for 14 points, and tallied one block and a pair of steals. Thelma Hearn continued to impress, dishing out a
career-high 11 assists to go along with her nine points and three steals.
Nikki Jones again led the UWA rebounding attack with six, while contributing eight points.
The win moves UWA's record to 11-2 overall (4-0 in GSC play), as the Tigers now stand alone in first place in the GSC East Division. West Alabama returns to action on today with a 5:30 p.m. matchup at Montevallo.
