EagleFest, the biggest preseason fundraiser for the Meridian Community College baseball team, will get underway Saturday with EagleFest.
The second annual event is a day-long festival of baseball which will include a home run hitting derby and a scrimmage game, followed by a banquet featuring guest speaker Corky Palmer, head baseball coach at the University of Southern Mississippi.
First-year MCC head coach Mike Federico says having EagleFest is an excellent way to start up the new season.
The new Eagle boss is excited to have his former mentor at USM coming to speak to Eagle fans and players.
EagleFest will begin with a home run hitting derby featuring stars from past MCC teams. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. following an hour registration period.
At 11:30 a.m., Federico will send out his 27-man squad for the Green-White scrimmage game. Several of the returning alumni will also be invited to play.
The coach says the entire Eagle pitching staff should see action in the game.
The banquet is slated to start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person. The dinner will be held at Mississippi State-Meridian.
Before the banquet, fans will get a chance to participate in a silent auction featuring several items of sports memorabilia. The primary items include autographed baseballs from legendary players like Roger Clemens, Reggie Jackson, Al Kaline, Rod Carew, Tom Seaver, Frank Robinson and Tommy Lasorda.
