Saturday's soccer playoffs set

Three area high school soccer teams are still in their respective playoffs and all will be hosting second-round games on Saturday.
The action kicks off at noon with the boys of West Lauderdale playing host to Cathedral High School of Natchez at noon in MHSAA 3A-2A-1A action.
Cathedral is 11-2 on the season.
At 1 p.m. the Lady Trojans of Northeast Lauderdale will entertain the powerful Lady Rebels of George County.
George County comes in with a 16-1-1 mark, while NEL is 11-1.
The Clarkdale High School boys team rounds out the days action on the local scene with a 5:30 p.m. contest against visiting Mercy Cross.
Clarkdale is 13-2, while Mercy Cross is 6-8-1.
The winners will advance to the semifinals on Tuesday, with the state finals to be held the following Saturday.

NHS announces tip-off times
Saturday's much awaited game between host Newton High School and Jackson Prep will be played earlier than expected.
The girls game has been moved to 2 p.m. at the NHS gym, with the boys game to follow.
It will be the first time Newton High School, a member of the Mississippi High School Activities Association, has played a team out of the Mississippi Private School Association.

Meet the Wildcats Day' set
Meridian Head Baseball Coach Vince McLemore says the team will hold its "Meet the Wildcats Day" on Feb. 9 at John Moss Field.
The event will start at 1:30 p.m. At that time, fans and parents can take pictures of the players and team.
At 2 p.m., fans can take their chance at hitting or throwing against a radar gun. The cost will be $1 per swing or throw.
There will also be a home-run derby. Cost is $5.
Meridian High School opens its season with the Lauderdale County Tournament on Feb. 15-16.
