Meridian police Thursday continued their investigation into the apparent murder of a local man.
On Wednesday, police responding to a call arrived at 35th Avenue and 23rd Street to find Denardo Saffold, 21, of 5808 40th Court, on the ground outside his vehicle, according to MPD Det. Deano Harper. Saffold had been shot in the head and later died at a local hospital.
Harper said officers are still investigating the shooting and encouraged anyone who thinks they may have information to call CrimeStoppers at 485-1860.
Meanwhile, a Jackson woman accused of snatching an elderly woman's purse in the Bonita Lakes Mall parking lot last summer was behind bars Thursday at the Lauderdale County jail.
Harper said Tiffany Williams, 25, of 2108 Whitman St., Jackson, was held on $15,000 bond after officers with the Jackson Police Department arrested her for the robbery. She was transported to Meridian on Wednesday.
Harper said Williams was charged in connection with the robbery of Philadelphia resident Dawn Mars on July 18, 2001. Mars, 62, said she became so angry when her purse was taken that she gave chase to the robber.
