The last time Kyle Stoddard played soccer, he was a just small child. This year, Stoddard traded in his basketball shoes for a pair of cleats and has since become a big factor for the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans. In fact, Stoddard's goal with under 10 minutes left in the game gave Northeast their first goal of the day and the momentum to take the win over the visiting George County.
DECATUR Kemper and Newton County Academy have won five of the last six MPSA Academy 3-A District Tournament titles, so it was only fitting that the two met in the finals of this year's event. It may also be fitting that the pair gave the fans at NCA the best game of the three-day tournament. Kemper's Eddie Keaton drove the baseline for the winning shot with four seconds remaining, lifting the Rams to a repeat of the title with a 61-60 win over the homestanding Generals.

BAY SPRINGS After a slow start, coach Paul Anderson's Lady Patriots of Winston Academy got their transition game together, and the end result was an impressive 67-28 victory over Newton County Academy in the opening round of the Mississippi Private School Association's Academy 3-A Tournament Monday night at Sylva-Bay Academy.

DECATUR "They'rrrrre grrreat." No, Tony the Tiger wasn't on hand for East Central Community College's doubleheader with Copiah-Lincoln Monday night, but that was one ECCC student's opinion of his Warriors. And on Monday, he was pretty much right. The homestanding Warriors mashed the visiting Wolves (16-5) 84-64 Monday night.
PHILADELPHIA Magic Johnson can count Charles Barkley among his top admirers. But when it come to the All-Star game, the Philadelphia 76ers forward draws the line. "I have thought about picking up the phone, calling Magic and telling him maybe he shouldn't play in the All-Star game," Barkley said Monday after practice. "It's his decision, but the All-Star game is a reward for players who've had a great first half of the season." Johnson, who retired from the Los Angeles Lakers Nov. 7 after testing positive for the AIDS virus, was selected by fans to start for the Western Conference in the game Sunday in Orlando.

The Answer …
Utah beat West Virginia 32-6 in the 1964 Liberty Bowl played in Atlantic City, N.J.
Sports Faces …
LYNDSEY HOWARD
Being a freshman cheerleader at Meridian Community College has allowed Lyndsey Howard a chance to stay close to athletics.
For three years, she played softball for coach Rick Roberson at Clarkdale High School.
The Howard clan is still strong in Clarkdale as Lyndsey's little sister Emily is the starting pitcher for Clarkdale this season.
Cheering makes up for not playing.
