Monique Horner may never be recognized nationally for scoring the most career points during her basketball days at Southeast Lauderdale, but Horner will be remembered for quite a while as the pride and joy of Southeast Lauderdale as well as bbeing a pretty prolific scorer. Horner scored 41 points in Tuesday's 83-65 win over Quitman to surpass Missy Thomas, whose 4,506 points at Coleman High School in Gibsland La., from 1992-95 are recognized as the nation's career best. National rules limit players to four years for their career point total and Horner began her point tally as a seventh-grader.
WAYNESBORO Chances are, if someone had told Wayne County head coach Gina Skelton her team would have only score 36 points against Donald Shirley's Meridian High Wildcats, she probably wouldn't have taken the news well. But to the surprise of everyone packed inside the Wayne County High "Thunder Dome", Skelton's Lady War Eagles outlasted the Lady Wildcats 36-33.

BAY SPRINGS Four times this season, Central Academy's Lady Vikings have beaten Winston Academy. But to win the Academy 3-A Division Tournament, they'll have to do it one more time. Macon Central and Winston each advanced to the tournament's championship tonight with semifinal wins Thursday. Central drilled host Sylva-Bay 58-28, while Winston held off Kemper 55-51.
ENTERPRISE If watching a free throw shooting contest is your cup of tea, then Enterprise High School was the place to be Thursday night as coach Rodgers Rahaim's Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs outshot coach Steve Hodges' Enterprise Lady Bulldogs from the charity stripe to claim a narrow 71-63 victory over their in-county rivals.

HATTIESBURG Southern Mississippi's comatose offense continued its peaceful slumber Thursday. Once again the Golden Eagles exhibited long periods without points. Once again Clarence Weatherspoon couldn't do it by himself. Once again USM came up dry. First-year Metro Conference member Virginia Commonwealth avenged a home loss to USM 10 days ago with an 82-74 win before a crowd of 5,388.
It didn't take Danny Adams long to figure out what he wanted. After just one season as the head football coach and Director of Athletics at East Mississippi Community College, officials at the school announced yesterday that Adams has resigned his post effective at the end of the contract year.

Angela Jones says being able to cheer for the Meridian Wildcats is a dream come true.
Even when things seem to be going bad for the Wildcats, they can count on Jones to keep the spirit up. A case in point was a January game between Meridian and Heidelberg. The Wildcats came from eight down in the final 25 seconds of regulation and then won it in overtime.
