WASHINGTON Nearly $10 million included in President Bush's proposed budget for the next fiscal year would help fund construction of housing at Naval Air Station Meridian.
Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott praised the budget proposal on Friday, saying the military support is needed.
Bush's budget includes $9.76 million for the housing at NAS Meridian. It also includes another $4.12 million for housing at Columbus Air Force Base and $16.51 million for housing at Keesler Air Force Base.
Also included is funding to enhance capabilities at Gulfport's Navy Seabee base, Naval Station Pascagoula and Keesler.
Bush also wants to fund further production of important weapons systems being built at key Mississippi defense contractors, including Northrop Grumman Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and Raytheon Aerospace of Forest.
