id you send the typical dozen roses to your loved one last year on Valentine's Day? Want to give them something special this year?
Maybe a "Singing Valentine" would make their day at least that's what members of the Meridian Children's Choir hopes will happen. Choir members will deliver valentines to homes, businesses or just about anywhere.
This marks the third year for the chorus' "Singing Valentines." For a $25 donation, the chorus will surprise a recipient with a red carnation, a message from the sender and a medley of love songs.
Songs will include "It was a Lover and His Lass" and "Love Grows Under the Old Oak Tree. Money raised will help the chorus with expenses this summer when it travels to Canterbury and London.
The 39-member chorus will ride in vans beginning at 8:30 a.m. Valentine's Day and then make stops all around the city.
The chorus is open to children in grades three through 12. Hurley said she believes the chorus offers kids a chance to experience the world.

HOW THE CHORUS BEGAN
The Meridian Children's Chorus was founded in 1995 by Vivian Hurley.
Since then, the chorus has won local and national recognition for its musical sound, varied repertoire and professional approach.
The chorus sings in many languages and explores the rich heritage of world-wide cultures.
Members perform at least two full concerts each season and appear regularly as a guest choir at many Mississippi events, including the recent "Hope Village" Grand Opening and the Performing Arts Program in Laurel.
The chorus also performs with the Meridian Symphony Orchestra.
In 1998, the chorus made its debut at Carnegie Hall with the National Children's Choir. In April 2000, the chorus traveled to Canada to perform with the Toronto Children's Chorus.
