The Meridian Community College Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Milford Smith on Tuesday as director of the Small Business Development Center.
Janet Heggie will assume Smith's duties until a replacement or interim director is appointed. Smith could not be reached for comment.
MCC President Scott Elliott said he doesn't know Smith's reasons for leaving. Elliott said he hasn't discussed the resignation with Smith and said he assumes Smith chose to seek other opportunities.
Elliott said the center's operations should continue without interruption.
MCC is expected to receive a visit in the next few weeks from Doug Gurley of Oxford, who coordinates small business development centers around the state.
Elliott said he expects a topic of discussion will be the future of the center at MCC.
The center is part of Mississippi's Small Business Development Center Network. The center provides counseling, training, and other services.
In a cooperative agreement with the federal government, the center's services include market research, demographic information, business plan development, financial forecasting, inventor assistance and international trade.
