Three Meridian teen-agers have been arrested in connection with bomb threats at Meridian High and Kate Griffin.
The names of the juveniles were not released and police said the investigation is continuing. The arrests were announced at a Wednesday press conference by Sam Thompson, director of safety, Meridian schools; Superintendent Dr. Janet McLin; MPD Officer J.C. Lewis and Meridian Police Chief Benny DuBose.
A tip from a student to Lauderdale County CrimeStoppers led to the arrests and one of the suspects reportedly signed a confession. The arrests came two weeks after school district leaders and law enforcement officers asked the public for help in finding anyone who has made bomb threats at city schools.
"We promised we would treat it as a serious matter and we're going to do that," Thompson said. "We want to make sure they are prosecuted to the fullest, whatever the law will allow."
