Lamar School took an 8-1 win over West Lauderdale in prep tennis at the Northeast Tennis Complex on Monday.
The match between Lamar, an MPSA school, and West Lauderdale, an MHSAA school was played under the MPSA format which calls for two boys singles matches, two boys doubles matches, to girls singles matches, two girls doubles matches and a mixed doubles match. Since both coaches wanted their players to get valuable court time, the match was expanded to include several other matches.
Lamar's Wade Covington downed Daniel Rigdon 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 boys singles, while Bryan Barham defeated Jason Blanks of West Lauderdale, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in No. 2 boys singles.
No. 1 boys doubles action saw Lamar's Frank Marascalco and Stanton Lauderdale defeat Kyle Naylor and Matt Shanrock, 6-2, 6-2, while Lane Rush and Jimmy Epps of Lamar took a 6-1, 7-6 win over Scott Truesdale and Josh Sonic in boys No. 2 doubles.
Pat Phillippi and Katie Pearson of Lamar downed Dee Dallas and Jessica Lee 6-4, 7-6 in mixed doubles.
West Lauderdale's Amy Frazier, took a 6-3, 7-6 win over Kristina Makey in No. 1 girls singles, while Anne Claire Marascalco of Lamar downed Dee Hodges 6-2, 6-0 in No. 2 girls singles.
Lamar's Kelsey Cobb and Amy Swartzfager defeated Brook Bounds and Brittany Wright 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 girls doubles, while Lisa Swartzfager and Sara Michelle Nicholson beat Casey Hedgepath and Lea Cook of West Lauderdale 6-0, 6-0.
In other boys singles matches Dawson Dyess of West Lauderdale beat J. Grantham 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 and Matt Shanrock of West topped Will McRae 6-1, 6-2. In boys doubles Clayton keller and Justin Blanks of West Lauderdale beat William Anderson and John Blubaugh 7-5, 6-4 and Josh Sonic and Scott Ruesdale topped Tommy Edgerton and Logan Rush 6-0, 6-3.
In girls singles Cori Waters of Lamar took a 6-0, 6-0 win over Casey Hedgepath, while in girls doubles Brook Bounds and Brittany Wright of West beat Carrie McDonnell and Anna Clair Davis of Lamar 8-2 and Kristin Nicholson and Emily Cady of Lamar beat Claire Massey and Morgan Roberts, 6-0, 6-0.
