2002 Go-Kart season underway with Ice Bowl'

The 2002 go-kart racing season got underway Saturday with the running of the 4th annual Ice Bowl. The weather was perfect and the racing was great.
Seventy-Five karts and drivers from the local area as well as Alabama and Louisiana were on hand for the first event of the year. If the first race of the year is any indication of what is to come this year, the racing should be something to see all year.
The local drivers showed that they could run with the big boys by winning 4 of the 8 classes. All classes with 10 or more entries paid $300 to win. The results from Saturdays race is as follows, Rookie Purple winner was Kaleb Killens of Poplarville Ms. 2nd place went Chad Cain also from Poplarville Ms. and 3rd place went to David Edwards Jr. of
Columbus Ms.
Rookie Blue winners were 1st place Evan Ellis from Tupelo Ms, 2nd-went to Creighten Nelms from Corinth Ms, and 3rd place finisher was Kyle Followell of Meridian Ms.
Rookie Gold winner was Sam Wooten one of the locals from Lake Ms, 2nd place went to Jeff Crook from Minter Al. and 3rd went to Kevin Weir from Hickory Ms.
Results from the Stock Lite Class were 1st Jeri Leigh Wooten from Lake Ms., Randy Harvison from Citronelle Al was 2nd and Chris Collums from Tupelo Ms finished 3rd.
Stock Medium went to Buster Dickerson from Caledonia Ms., followed by Randy
Harvison and Anthony Rawson from Meridian Ms.
Top 3 places in Stock Heavy went all local drivers. 1st went Bill Moffett from Meridian Ms., 2nd place finisher was Mike Palmiter from Marion Ms. and 3rd went to Rodney Bounds of Hickory.
Stock Amateur 1st – James McDaniel 2nd-Bryan Rawlinson
The Limited class also saw locals take the top 3 spots Mike Palmiter was the winner with Mikel Sullins 2nd followed by Andy Pippin.
The regular racing season gets underway Saturday April 6. Everyone is invited out to enjoy a night of family fun and entertainment. As always no alcoholic beverages allowed.
