Bulldogs defeat Union
The Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs defeated Union High School 6-3 in local fast-pitch softball action. Clarkdale scored six runs on seven hits and Union score three runs on three hits. JorD'an Orr had a double for the Lady Bulldogs and Lauren White had a double and a triple for Union.

MCC golf team finishes fifth
The Meridian Community College golf team finished fifth in the Wynn Lakes Winter National Invitational in Montgomery, Ala. Huntington College won the tournament with a 930. LaGrange came in second with a 946 and Linwood came in third with a 953. Faulkner shot a 961 and MCC finished with a 968 overall.
The Eagles were in tenth place after the first round and moved their way up to sixth place after two rounds. MCC overcame some bad weather conditions and took fifth place after the final round.
Clinton Hales and Daniel Boles led the Eagles as they both shot 239. Brandon Laird followed with a 243 and Josh Martin shot a 254. David Bailey finished with a 258.

MSU signs Hubert to soccer team
STARKVILLE Mississippi State head soccer coach Neil McGuire announced the second of four expected spring signees Tuesday morning as Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year Courtney Hubert (Vicksburg, Miss./Warren Central HS) inked her name to a national letter of intent to continue her playing career with the Bulldogs.
Hubert comes to Starkville after an impressive prep and club career in the state of Mississippi. She is expected to make an immediate impact for the Bulldogs upon her arrival.

DSU Baseball vs. Union rescheduled
CLEVELAND Delta State Universitys baseball doubleheader with Union University slated for Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. has been rescheduled for a single game on April 18 at 4 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn.

Union Golf Club to host tourney
The Union Golf Club will host the Union High School Golf Team Benefit Golf Tournament on Saturday, March 9 with a tee time at 9 a.m. The tournament will be a 3-man select for 27 holes. The entry fee is $25 per player for the 27 holes and a lunch. Lady Wildcats down Quitman
Meridian High School defeated Quitman High School in fast-pitch softball.
The Lady Wildcats scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to take a 8-7 victory. Erin Murphy got the win and improved to 1-2 on the season.
Jeannie Mollett got the loss. Ashley Brown had two hits for the Lady Wildcats. Meridian High will travel to play Choctaw Central on Friday.

UWA hits big in Mississippi State rodeo
STARKVILLE After a long layoff, the University of West Alabama rodeo team got back to action on the weekend of Feb. 21-23 at the Mississippi State Rodeo. The Tiger women turned in a big performance that was good enough to capture a first-place finish with 210 points, while the Tiger men finished a respectable fourth.
Ericka Register paced the Tiger women, finishing first in the goat-tying event with a total time of 16.4, following times of 7.3 and 9.1 in the long go and short go respectively. Register also turned in a fourth-place overall finish in breakaway roping after grabbing a fourth-place finish in the short go (4.2). Kelly McGee finished second in breakaway roping with a combined
time of 7.5. Jessi Ervin rounded out the Tiger finishers with a first-place finish in the barrel racing long go (14.91).
Josh Hunt led the men's charge, finishing in a tie for third in saddle bronc, following a first-place finish in the long go. Wilbur Durrance finished fourth in the calf roping short go (11.3), while teammate Scott Wilson teamed up with a partner from Abraham-Baldwin for a first-place finish in the team-roping event.
