MCC Lady Eagles drop pair to PJC
PENSACOLA, Fla. The Meridian Community College women's fast-pitch softball team dropped a doubleheader to host Pensacola Junior College last Thursday.
PJC used a one-hitter by Dana Gilmore to take a fast-paced 1-0 win in the opener. Pensacola scored the lone run of the game in the fifth without the benefit of a hit. The lead-off hitter walked, moved to second on a passed ball, was sacrificed to third and then scored on a ground out.
Pensacola only had one hit as well in the game, that coming in the fourth inning. Ashlee Frazier pitched a strong game for the Lady Eagles, but took the tough-luck loss.
The second game saw PJC score two runs in the first inning and three in the second on the way to a 6-2 win.
Stephanie Dixon drove in both MCC runs with a single in the third inning. Amanda Stricklin was 2-for-2 for the Lady Eagles, who picked up just three hits in the game.
Anne McLean was the losing pitcher for MCC in the game.
MCC, now 8-7 on the season, hosts East Mississippi Community College in a doubleheader at the Northeast Softball Complex today beginning at 1 p.m.
