Painted by art teacher Pegi Harmon, Horseplay's design incorporates art, drama, dance and music a composite of the 20 best ideas from winners in a contest to design the horse.
Claudia Pass' fourth-grade Brownie Scout Troop created posters inviting students to enter the contest. More than 300 students responded.
Seventh-grader Bryan Barham received the most first-place votes from the judges.
Winners in the high school/middle school art contest were: Madiha Ahmad, Trey Axtell, Barham, Clay Bounds, Christen Cooper, Will Craven, Heather Garrett, Anna Leigh May, Brittany Payne and Frances Warner.
Elementary school winners were: Bailey Allen, Makenzie Cobb, Kelsey Dunlap, Seena Edgerton, Robbie Epps, Juliet Howarth, Joyce Catherine Neville, Victoria Poole, Mary Anna Smith and Staci Vice.
All students were encouraged to earn money to help pay for the horse; they raised more than $2,500.
Horseplay was "born" when Parents at Lamar School (PALS) voted to help Hope Village for Children by participating in "Around Town Carousels Abound" as a community service endeavor for 2001-2002. Gayle Callahan coordinated the effort.
