COLUMBIA, S.C. Eddie Fogler will not return as South Carolina's basketball coach following a 15-14 season, ending his stay of eight years at the school.
Duke joined UCLA in the record books by being No. 1 in the final Associated Press poll for the third straight season. The Blue Devils (29-4), a top seed in the NCAA tournament for a fourth straight year, moved from third to first Monday in the voting by a national media panel. The only other school to finish No. 1 in three straight final polls was UCLA, which did it from 1971-73.

Clarkdale baseball coach Donnie Sylvester wasn't even sure he would be able to use pitcher Luke Gault for the championship game of the Southeast Lauderdale Invitational Tournament Wednesday. Sylvester may now be wondering why he ever had any doubt. Gault came on in relief to save both games for the Bulldogs Tuesday, but showed no signs of fatigue against Southeast Wednesday, twirling a masterful four-hit shutout to lift the Bulldogs to a 5-0 win and the tournament title.
DECATUR Sophomore Theddiaus Robinson looked more like a seasoned veteran on the mound for Newton Wednesday afternoon. The hurler scattered eight hits and two unearned runs over seven innings to power the Newton Tigers to an 8-2 win over the Forest Bearcats in the Newton County Spring Break Tournament. Robinson struck out four and walked none to claim the victory, while also coming through with a single and double at the plate.

BIRMINGHAM A season full of rumors ended abruptly as Ole Miss basketball coach Ed Murphy announced his resignation her Thursday night. A look of relief filled the 50-year-old Murphy's face and he flashed an occasional smile while announcing his decision to the media after his team's 85-66 first round loss to Georgia in the SEC tournament.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. Was there ever any doubt? Southern Mississippi's power forward Clarence Weatherspoon made it a three-peat Thursday when the Metro Conference media made him the league's Player of the Year for the third straight season. The announcement came at an awards luncheon as teams began arriving for the Metro tournament, to be held Friday through Sunday at Freedom Hall.

Cheering runs in the blood of Southeast Lauderdale Middle School cheerleader Brittany Butler.
Butler is the younger sister of Courtney and Jennifer Butler who are cheerleaders at the SEL high school.
Along with cheering, Butler is active in Beta, FCA, and summer league softball.
Butler plans to become a high school cheerleader, and play high school softball also.
After high school graduation, Butler wants to become a lawyer.
Butler is the daughter of Dewayne and Sharon Butler.
