The Question …
Modern basketball, as developed by Dr. Naismith, can trace its origins back to 1891. Its birthplace is Springfield. But which Springfield should we thank Springfield, Illinois or Springfield, Massachusetts?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. It doesn't seem to matter how the season starts for Kentucky. The Wildcats make sure that it ends the same way almost every year. Tayshaun Prince scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as No. 15 Kentucky defeated 14th-ranked Ole Miss 77-55 in the SEC championship game Sunday afternoon, giving the Wildcats their 23rd title in 42 tournaments. Kentucky (22-9) is 24-7 in championship games and 8-1 since the SEC split into two divisions in 1992. The Wildcats now have won this championship eight of the last 10 years.
HAMPTON, Ga. The race started with a tribute to Dale Earnhardt, and Kevin Harvick offered one of his own at the end, driving The Intimidator's car to victory. Harvick, a 25-year-old rookie who took over for Earnhardt after his death in the season-opening Daytona 500, won the first time in his Winston Cup career, beating Jeff Gordon by inches in the Cracker Barrel 500.

Ryan Taylor saved the day for Southeast Lauderdale. The junior catcher lined Enterprise starter Teague Burchfield's first pitch over the center field fence for a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth in the nightcap of the Southeast Invitational Tournament Tuesday night. Taylor's shot knotted the game at 7-7. Robert Hughes' single brought in Kyle Ethridge home two batters later, and the Tigers held on for the 8-7 win. Eighth grader John Coker came on in relief and picked up the win, while Eric Rideout threw a scoreless seventh for his second save of the day. Burchfield picked up the loss.
Jonathan Hardy went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs batted in to lead the Philadelphia High Tornadoes to a 9-0 win against the Newton High Tigers in the Newton County Baseball Tournament Tuesday morning. Spence Latimer went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI while Jamie Nichols doubled, singled and drove in two runs in four at-bats.

LAS VEGAS UNLV's basketball season officially ended Wednesday night when a state judge refused to order the NCAA to allow the seventh-ranked Runnin' Rebels to participate in the postseason basketball tournament. District Judge Donald Mosley said that while he agreed UNLV's players were being unfairly punished for sins they didn't commit he could find no legal standard that said the players had a right to participate in the tournament.

Lance Burnham
Lance Burnham is one of eight former All-Stars who helped Meridian's Babe Ruth All-Stars to the World Series Championship as 13-year-olds in 1998.
Four years later, at 17, he is currently playing third base for the Meridian High Wildcats. Meridian is off to a 10-5 start this season.
For Burnham, there was nothing quite like playing baseball at 13.
