KANSAS CITY, Mo. It was no mystery how Temple planned to beat Mississippi. Knowing it and solving it were two different things for Ole Miss, which set a record for ineptitude on offense. A matchup zone, the trademark of John Chaney's team, befuddled Mississippi as ninth-seeded Temple scored a 62-40 victory in the Midwest Regional Friday night.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Shalonda Enis had 23 points Friday as No. 8 Alabama geared up for tougher things to come with a 94-50 win over St. Francis in the opening round of the NCAA East Regional. Alabama (24-6) won its first-round tournament game for the sixth straight year and advanced to play St. Joseph's a 70-52 winner over Kansas State earlier Friday. A win against the seventh-seeded Hawks on Sunday would put the Crimson Tide in the Sweet 16 for the fourth straight year.
Meridian Community College sophomore catcher Paul Phillips ripped two home runs and drove in five runs Friday afternoon to lead the No. 1-ranked Eagles to an 8-5 win against the Muscatine (Iowa) Community College Indians in game one of a junior college doubleheader at MCC Field.

LOUISVILLE It was everything it was supposed to be and a little bit more. It was No. 1 vs. No. 3 and a game that give coaches gray hairs. The No. 1 Tupelo Golden Wave scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to defeat No. 3 Meridian 2-1 and earn the championship trophy in the Louisville Spring Holiday Classic Saturday afternoon. Meridian captured second place. The Golden Wave run their record to 8-0 while Meridian falls to 8-2.
