Staff Sgt. Joseph D Deen, Staff Sgt. Walter B Staniscavage and Spc. Michael D Green were recently awarded the Army Achievement Medal during an awards ceremony by Company G, 185th Aviation Group.
Deen and Staniscavage are aviation maintenance section sergeants responsible for supervising repair and inspection of the company's H-47D helicopters. This is Staniscavage's fourth Army Achievement Medal.
Green is an aircraft mechanic responsible for the repair and inspection of the company's H-47D helicopters.
The men were awarded the Army Achievement Medal for meritorious service from January to October 2001.
The Army Achievement Medal, established in 1981, is awarded to members of the Army and the Army National Guard serving in a non-combat area who distinguish themselves by outstanding achievement or meritorious service.
The recommendation for the award noted that the men exhibited consistently distinguished performance and professional leadership qualities in all assignments during the award period.
The recommendation also said they can be counted on to make professionally practical and safe decisions about all areas under their supervision and are willing to do whatever is required to complete an assigned task.
Deen is a graduate of Beulah Hubbard High School in Little Rock. He is currently president of the Warriors for Christ Motorcycle Club.
Green graduated from Clarksdale High School and now lives in Meridian, where he works for the e-commerce company DirectLease. He and his wife are the parents of 15-month-old, La'shell Kayela.
Staniscavage, a graduate of West Lauderdale High School and Meridian Community College, has served 32 years in the Mississippi National Guard. He participates in the Phi Delta Kappa service club.
Company G, located on Key Field in Meridian, is a combat support aviation unit with 16 H-47D Chinook helicopters capable of lifting 25,000 pounds of internal or external cargo in support of an Army Corps.
The unit trains to conduct sustained day and night operations in all environments.
