HATTIESBURG College baseball fans in the Meridian area and across the state will get to watch tonight's Ole Miss-Southern Mississippi baseball game on television.
The live telecast, set for 6:30 p.m., will be available on the Comcast System in Hattiesburg, Channel 11; Laurel, Channel 7; Meridian, Channel 12; and on the Time-Warner System, Channel 77, in Jackson. Other systems may be added. Lance Pittman will handle the play-by-play duties.
The telecast will be an in-house production for USM's Broadcast Services, said Bud Kirkpatrick, assistant to the president for University of Relations.
Consideration is being given to three other Golden Eagle baseball games to be telecast this season, an April 2 game at Alabama and home games against Mississippi State on April 16-17.
There are also plans to televise some Lady Eagles softball games.
Kirkpatrick said there is a critical need for sponsors for the commercial time in the game.
The USM-Ole Miss game will feature two teams off to a hot start. The Golden Eagles, who beat Ole Miss 5-1 in Hattiesburg on Feb. 27, will go to Ole Miss with a 14-5 record.
The Rebels are 13-6.
