MCC falls on late homer
NICEVILLE, Fla. Nicole Vinson belted a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to carry Volunteer (Tenn.) State Community College to a 3-2 win over Meridian Community College in tournament play at Okaloosa-Walton Community College on Saturday.
MCC took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run homer by Kaylora Bingham to left field that also scored Stephanie Dixon who had singled.
Dixon had a single and a double for the Lady Eagles, 17-16. Robin Holland had a pair of singles in MCC's six hits.
MCC wasted a scoring opportunity in the top of the first, loading the bases but failing to produce a run.
Ashley Frazier was the hard-luck loser for MCC.

Union edges Morton 18-13
The Union Yellow Jackets downed Morton 18-13 on Saturday. The win moves Union to 7-7 on the season.
Morton falls to 11-4.
Union had 14 hits and used a seven-run fourth inning to take control.
Eric Graham was the winning pitcher to go to 1-0 on the year.
At the plate, Jacob Casey was 3-for-5, Jordan Robinson 3-for-4, Jody Blount 3-for-4, Wes Henry 2-for-5 and Joseph Graham 2-for-3.

MCC golf team places seventh
The Meridian Community College golf team finished seventh at the Spring Fling Golf Tournament at the Goose Pond Course.
Shelton State won the tournament with an overall score of 581. Meridian came in at 606.
The Eagles were led by Daniel Boles with a 146 (71-75). Brandon Laird shot a 152 while Clinton Hales had a 153. Rounding out MCC were Trae Vaughn with a 155 and Cameron Hunt with a 157.
Meridian will host its annual tournament on Tuesday at Northwood Country Club.

Morton edges Newton County
Morton beat Newton County 8-7 in nine innings on Saturday. The loss drops the Cougars to 8-7 on the season.
The two teams were tied at 6-6 after four innings. It was 7-7 after seven. Morton scored a run in the top of the ninth to take the win.
Mylan Anderson and Robbie Carey had home runs for Newton County. Joel Nutt and John Harris each had three hits for Morton. Ken Gordon and James Harris each had two hits.

Morrison has hole-in-one
Edgar Morrison made an ace on the No. 2 hole at an unidentified golf course on Saturday. He used a six-iron from 180 yards out.
The shot was witnessed by Bill Smylie, Howard Donald, Warren Bruckmeir and Wayne Sullivan.

Northwood to host Spring 4-Ball
Northwood Country Club will hold its Spring 4-Ball Tournament on April 27-28.
The entry fee per team will be $160. The format will be a four-ball scramble. The field will be closed off to the first 84 teams.
Shotgun starts will begin on Saturday at 8 a.m. or 12:30. On Sunday they will be at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Prizes will go out to the top eight teams.
Mail entries to the Tournament Chair, P.O. Box 3156 North Station in Meridian.
