40th anniversary
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cooksey will host a reception celebrating their parents 40th wedding anniversary. The reception will be Sunday, March 24, 2002, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Abundant Life Tabernacle, 1921 Highway 19 North. The Cookseys were married March 24, 1962, at North Bend Pentecostal Church in Philadelphia. Family and friends are invited to attend.
50th anniversary
Earnest Grady and Mary Leigh Young recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Feb. 9, 1952, in Kalso, Ark. The Youngs have four children and eight
grandchildren. The Youngs are carriers for The Meridian Star, delivering newspapers to the Scooba and Shuqualak areas.
50th anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nichols of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., celebrated their 50th anniversary Feb. 23, 2002, at the Welcome Center of First Baptist Church of Ft. Walton Beach. The party was hosted by their sons, Mike and Renz, their families and several longtime friends. They were married in Calvert, Ala., on Feb. 22, 1952. Mr. Nichols retired as a systems safety engineer at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., in 1989. Mrs. Nichols retired from the Okaloosa District Schools in 1986 after teaching for 30 years. Out of town guests included Joyce's aunt, Ernestine Dearman Simmons and her son, Larry Dearman, and his wife, Gayle, of Meridian. Mrs. Nichols is the former Joyce Rawson of the Long Creek Community in Lauderdale County.
62nd anniversary
The Rev. Earl and Odessa Howard of Lauderdale recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. They were married March 7, 1940, at Good Hope in Leake County. They have five children, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
