Newton County's Krissi Harris and Lauren Barrett combined for a no-hitter Friday afternoon to lead the Lady Cougars to a 15-0 win over Northeast Lauderdale at Northeast Park.
An eight-run second inning provided more than enough runs as Newton County upped its record to 13-2.
Harris tossed three perfect innings to start the game before being lifted in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Northeast managed two baserunners off Barrett as Lauren Webb and Raleigh Odom both reached on infield errors.
Newton County had 12 hits and received nine walks. Every Newton County starter had at least one hit and all scored at least one run.
Kristin Chaney walked in the first inning and scored for an early 1-0 Lady Cougar lead.
Newton County broke the game open with eight runs in the top of the second. Dominique Mapp had an RBI-double, Joy Cavenaugh had a two-run homer, Shelly Ferguson and Jennifer Smith each had a single and Northeast committed two errors and issued three walks in the frame.
Newton County added six more runs in the third inning. Harris had a double with Mapp, Suzanne Chaney, and Jackson each having an RBI-single.
Harris and Mapp both finished with two hits.
Webb took the loss as the Lady Trojans fell to 5-4. Northeast's next game is Monday at Northeast Park against West Jones.
