Meridian Wildcats grab road wins over Louisville, Columbus

The Meridian Wildcats made it 11 out of its last 12 games by taking two road wins on Saturday in baseball action.
In the evening tilt, the Wildcats spanked Louisville 9-3.
John Stevens and Torry Bates cranked two home runs in the contest. The first pair were back-to-back shots. Bates, who had two solo shots, now has six homers on the season.
Stevens knocked in three runs.
Quinton Warren got the mound win to move to 2-0 on the year. He struck out eight in four innings. Kyle Boswell came in and threw the final three innings to grab the save. The win moves Meridian to 17-5 on the season.
In earlier afternoon action, Meridian downed Columbus 11-4. Tyler Maxwell went the distance to get the win. He fanned five.
Bates had another big game with the bat driving in four runs off three hits including two doubles. Ricky McMillian went 3-for-4.
Stevens had a double and a triple. Maurice Cole had two doubles.
Lamar 2
Patrician 1
The Lamar School Raiders went into Alabama and came back with a 2-1 victory over Patrician Academy in Butler, Ala., on Saturday afternoon.
The win lifts the Raiders to 5-4 on the season.
Drew Moffett got the win for Lamar to go to 1-0 on the season. Daniel Harrison came in and earned the save.
At the plate, Moffett went 2-for-4 with a double. David Haggard was 2-for-3. The Raiders return to action on Tuesday at Copiah Academy.
Union 6
Choctaw County 0
The Union Yellow Jackets were another area team to get a win against an Alabama school on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets stung Choctaw County 6-0. Union pitcher Eric Graham tossed a no-hitter. At the plate, Union was paced by Jody Blount and Zack Robinson. Both went 2-for-3 with a double. Jacob Casey was 2-for-5. Joseph Graham had a double.
Enterprise 9
Union 8
Enterprise scored seven runs in its final at bat to beat Union 9-8 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs were led by Kelly Jimmerson and Anthony Rawson. Both players slugged home runs. Jimmerson also had a single.
Union was led by Jody Blount with three hits including a triple. Danny Cain had a double and Brooks Vance had a home run.
Newton County 19
Taylorsville 14
Newton County won the slugfest over Taylorsville 19-14 in the Taylorsville Tournament on Saturday.
The win moves the Cougars to 12-9 on the season.
All nine Cougars in the line-up had big games. Mylan Anderson led the parade with a home run and four RBIs.
Matthew Boggan drove in five off three singles. Adam Bout had three RBIs and three stolen bases. Colby Amis knocked in two off two hits while Jonathan Walker had three hits and two RBIs. Josh Avant was 2-for-6 and Brandon Ezell was 3-for-4 with a double. Tyler Hagen had a double and two RBIs and Robbie Carey had a double.
Ezell was the winning pitcher. Newton County scored eight in the second inning to grab a 12-0 lead. It was 16-6 after four complete.
Harding, Tenn. 3
Newton County 1
Visiting Harding, Tenn., picked up a 3-1 win over Newton County at the Taylorsville Tournament.
The Cougars were limited to four hits. Josh Avant and Tyler Hagan had doubles. Colby Amis went six innings to take the loss. He struck out five.
NE Lauderdale 10
Florence 0
The Northeast Trojans picked up a Division 5-4A win by blanking Florence on the road on Friday night 10-0. The win moves Northeast to 9-10 on the season.
Drew Anderson got the win to move to 3-1 on the year.
At the plate, J.R. Smith went 2-for-4 with a double. Chad Brunson was 2-for-3 with a double. Ryan Stewart went 1-for-1.
