The Question …
He was the court star of UCLA in the 1960's, and the court star of the entire NBA in the 1970's. In college and during his early pro days, he played under the name of Lew Alcindor. The name was retired, but not the player. What is the current name of this all-time great?

SAN ANTONIO Loren Woods and the Arizona Wildcats went out of their way to stop Mississippi's Rahim Lockhart. Woods, towering over Lockhart at 7-foot-1, helped contain Mississippi's wide-body center and send the second-seeded Wildcats to a 66-56 victory Friday night in the Midwest semifinals.
The Meridian Wildcats were one strike away from defeating the West Lauderdale Knights in Collinsville late Friday night But that strike never came, as the Knights turned it around in the blink of an eye, rallying dramatically to win, 8-7. With two outs and two strikes, Bo Davis grounded to third and reached on a throwing error by Sanduan Dubose that plated Ike Munn, who had earlier reached on an infield error, to knot the game at seven. West catcher Miles Joiner looped a single into shallow right field and Davis beat the throw home to set off a wild celebration by the home team and leave the Cats (11-1) visibly stunned.

HOUSTON Hakeem Olajuwon insists he has a hamstring injury that's keeping him out of his Houston Rockets uniform. Rockets owner Charlie Thomas, however, decided Monday that Olajuwon is healthy enough to play and placed him on indefinite suspension without pay The ban stands to cost Olajuwon $46,900 per game, beginning with tonight's visit to Seattle. It has the potential to cost the Rockets, far from assured a Western Conference playoff berth, much more.

Brooks Vance
Brooks Vance plays centerfield for the Union Yellow Jackets that is when he is not pitching. For a 1A school like Union, Vance and his teammates have to play a bigger school every week of the season.
Last week, the Jackets were the only 1A team in the six-team Quitman Tournament. Union went 1-3 in the tourney. They beat 3A Morton on Saturday to even their season record at 7-7.
It also helps when the playoffs come around. Vance's baseball highlight came last year. "We beat St. Aloyious a game in a second round series. They won the series but we felt good about our season," said Vance.
