Lamar downs Jackson Academy

Lamar pounded the ball and swept Jackson Academy 15-4 and 13-3 in slow-pitch softball at Northeast Park Thursday night.
The Lady Raiders scored eight runs in the second inning in the first game and nine runs in the second inning of the second game to help them sweep a young Jackson Academy squad.

The Lady Raiders broke out the bats in the second inning and pounded out eight hits and eight runs to take an early lead and go on to run-rule the visitors 15-4.
Lamar scored three runs in the first inning to get control of the game. Myleia Shirley reached base to start the rally. Lizzie Williams ripped the ball down the first baseline and rounded the bags for a home run to give Lamar a 2-0 lead. Summer Richie followed with a triple and later scored on a single by Keri Mathis to give the Lady Raiders a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning the Lady Raiders broke the game open. Olivia Hill singled to start the inning. Brittany Payne walked and Celia Covington tripled to knock in two runs. Shirley singled in Covington. Williams and Richie added singles to give Lamar a 8-0 lead. April Rodgers singled and Cheryl Luquire also added a single for the Lady Raiders. Megan Pennington hit a sacrifice fly to score a run and Baleigh Barham singled in Luquire to make the score 11-0 after two innings of play.
Jackson Academy added four runs in the top of the third inning, but could get no closer as the Lady Raiders of Lamar added two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to win.
Covington had another triple with one out in the bottom of the third. She scored when a fielder dropped a fly ball by Williams. Richie singled and Rodgers knocked in Williams to make the score 13-4.
Luquire tripled to start the fourth but got out on a fielder's choice by Pennington. Barham singled and Hill knocked in Pennington with a sacrifice fly. Covington singled later in the inning and scored the final run to give Lamar a 15-4 victory.

The Lady Raiders scored nine runs in the second inning and four runs in the fourth to take an easy win.
With Jackson Academy up 1-0, Barham reached on a one-out walk. Hill singled and Pennington tripled. Brookley Branning, Covington, Shirley and Williams followed with singles. Richie singled and Mathis hit a ball to the gap for a home run to make the score 9-1 after two innings.
The visitors scored two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Raiders answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to run-rule JA.
Jessica Brown started the inning with a double. Laura Roberts followed with a home run to make the score 11-3. Later in the inning, Rodgers walked and Luquire finished off the game by hitting a ball in the gap for a homer.
Lamar improves to 5-1 on the season and will travel to play Heidelberg Academy today at 3:30 p.m.
