Meridian Wildcats clinch 5A district title

Meridian High defeated homestanding Wayne County 3-0 to clinch to the 5 A Division Championship. Torry Bates led the Wildcats from the mound in the shut out. Bates only allowed three hits as the Cats up their record to 5-0 in the District an 23-5 for the season. Meridian has won fifteen out of its last sixteen games.
The victory game in the top of the fifth inning when Ron McMillian led the Cats off with a single. He later stole second base and was driven in by Andy Slayton. John Stevens Single in the inning scored Richmond Alexander and Morise Cole for the win. Meridian will travel to Philadelphia tonight. Prep action starts at 6:00.
Enterprise 7
Sumrall 6
Enterprise defeated Sumrall last night 7-6 with a late two run homer.
Enterprise entered the seventh inning down two runs when Kelly Jimmerson hit a two run homer that sent the game into extra innings where the Bulldogs escaped with the win. Jimmerson was 4-4 with 4 RBI and the two run homer. Don Moore contributed a 3-4 performance to help the Bulldog effort. Enterprise travels to Baysprings next Friday.

Union 20
Ackerman 2
The Union Lady Yellow Jackets softball team claimed the Division 4-1A title with a pair of wins over Ackerman Thursday night. Union took the decisions 20-2 and 11-1.
In game one, Marley Smith took the win on the mound to up her record to 9-3 on the year.
Union scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second, five in the fifth, and eight in the fourth inning.
Chasity Yates led the Lady Jackets with two hits, followed by a pair of hits and three RBIs by Smith. Lindsey Walker also tossed in a pair of hits.

In game two, Union scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second, and four in the third inning.
Lindsey Cassel picked up her sixth win of season, on 10 strike outs.
Lauren Kennedy had three hits, while Madison Brantley added two hits and four RBIs.
The Lady Jackets will travel to Saturday to face Newton County at 2 p.m.

Carthage 0
The Newton County lady Cougars picked up their 25th win of the season, by knocking off Carthage 11-0.
Krissi Harris picked up the win for the Lady Cougars.
Joy Cavenaugh led the Lady Cougars with a home run, while Dominique Mapp added two hits.
The Lady Cougars will host the Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs today at Lady Cougar Field.
