KOSCIUSKO (AP) A former Attala County deputy and his wife were found shot to death in their home near McCool.
The bodies of Hank and Brenda Halderman were discovered Monday by the couple's son, said Sheriff Willie McDaniel.
Benjamin Halderman forced his way into the house when he could get no response, McDaniel said.
He kicked the back door to get in the house and the deputy had got here then. They were shot laying in the kitchen,'' said McDaniel.
Preliminary investigations indicate the Haldermans were shot with a high powered rifle. Hank Halderman was shot at least once in the chest. Brenda Halderman suffered at least one shot to the face.
It is believed the couple may have been dead for up to 48 hours.
Authorities say Hank Halderman left the sheriff's department in 1998 after working there on and off for about eight years.
Investigators were trying to determine if any items were missing from the couple's home.
No arrests have been made, and authorities have no motive in the killings.
