Meridian takes two wins

The Lady Wildcats of Meridian High won two of three games on the day and Southeast Lauderdale went 2-2 in the Meridian Invitational Softball Tournament at Northeast Park on Saturday.
Petal, West Point, Columbus, New Hope, Northeast Jones, South Jones and Southeast played in the tournament hosted by Meridian High.
Meridian defeated Petal and West Point earlier in the day before losing its last game to New Hope. Southeast defeated Columbus and West Point, but lost to Northeast Jones and lost in the last game of the tournament
Meridian 7
Petal 4
Meridian scored five runs in the fourth inning to come back to win its first game of the day 7-4. Petal lead 3-2 in the fourth after scoring two runs in the third inning before the Lady Wildcats came back for the win.
Erin Murphy picked up the win for Meridian. Ebonee Ball lead the Lady Wildcat hitting attack as she went 2-for-3 in the win.
Meridian 8
West Point 6
The Lady Wildcats scored a run in the sixth inning to tie up the game and scored two runs in the seventh inning to take an exciting victory over West Point 8-6.
West Point scored four runs in the third inning and two in the fourth to build a lead, but Meridian scored the run in the sixth to force an extra inning using international tie-break rules. The Lady Wildcats were able to add the two runs in the seventh and take the win.
Erin Murphy once again picked up the win for Meridian. Artesian Boyd had a triple for the Lady Wildcats and Stephanie Mosley had two hits.
New Hope 4
Meridian 0
Shelley Frasier threw a no-hitter for New Hope as the Lady Wildcats lost their final game of the day 4-0
New Hope plated two runs in the first inning and two runs in the third inning to build and lead and Frasier did the rest.
Meridian fell to 2-1 for the day after the loss. The Lady Wildcats will be in action on Monday when they travel to play Southeast at 7 p.m.
Southeast 10
Columbus 7
Southeast scored five runs in the first inning and two in the second to build an early lead and held on to beat Columbus 10-7.
Leann Workman was 2-for-2 for the Lady Tigers. Lindsey Graham was 3-for-4 and Morgan Dikes was 2-for-3. Heather Ward had a triple and Ashley Knight was 2-for-3 with a double.
Madison Davis picked up the win for Southeast.
Northeast Jones 10
Southeast 0
Southeast could manage only two hits as Northeast Jones took the shutout victory over the Lady Tigers 10-0.
Lindsey Graham had a single for Southeast and Stacey McMullen also had a single to lead the Lady Tigers.
Southeast 16
West Point 9
The Lady Tigers took advantage of a lot of walks to defeat West Point 16-9.
Southeast scored eleven runs in the third inning to take control of the game. West Point scored eight runs in the fifth, but could not make a comeback.
Morgan Dikes had a triple and Heather Ward had two triples for Southeast. Shalonda Mitchell added a homer and Ashley Knight had two singles for the Lady Tigers.
Petal 6
Southeast 0
Katie McCrary stuck out eight batters and pitched sixth scoreless innings to lead Petal to a 6-0 win in the final game of the tournament.
McCrary allowed only three hits in the game. Kelly Branning, Heather Ward and Lindsey Raines had a singled each for the Lady Tigers.
Petal scored two runs in the third and two runs in the fourth take the win and drop Southeast to 2-2 on the day. Southeast will host Meridian on Monday at 7.
