West Lauderdale begins softball season
The West Lauderdale Community Softball will begin its season at 10 a.m. today in Richard May Park. For more information call the West Lauderdale Youth Association at 626-8727 or 986-5577.
Library week starts Monday
The Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Library will celebrate National Library Week on Monday through April 20. Activities are planned for the entire week. A book sale will take place all week. Children's activities are scheduled for 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. April 20.
The library is at 2517 Seventh St.
Kandice's Team sells catfish plates
Kandice's Team, a participant in March of Dimes WalkAmerica, will raise money by selling catfish plates from 3:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Calvary Baptist Church. The food will be prepared by The Back 40 Seafood Restaurant. Plates can be delivered. All proceeds will go to the March of Dimes WalkAmerica.

Quitman to host job fair
A job fair will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 23 at the National Guard Armory in Quitman. Twenty employers are registered for the fair. For more information, call the Clarke County Chamber of Commerce at 776-5701.
MHS Band Boosters to meet
A meeting of the Meridian High School Band Boosters Association is set for 7 p.m. April 25 in the new MHS Band Hall. The annual MHS Band Banquet, uniforms and transportation fees for the 2002-2003 school year will be the focus of the meeting. Parents of ninth-grade students at Kate Griffin and Northwest Junior High Schools are encouraged to attend.

MLT holds Spring Variety Shop
The Meridian Little Theatre Guild will host its Spring Variety Shop from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 26 and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 27. Household goods, furniture, lamps, dishes, appliances, linens and books will be on sale. If you would like to donate items for the sale, pick-up service is available. The theatre is on Highway 39 North.

MPD holds Relay for Life fund-raiser
The Meridian Police Department's Relay for Life team will sell pulled pork plates April 26 in Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian. Plates are $5 and will be available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Delivery of 10 or more plates is available. Fax orders to 484-6812. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
Sumter Welcome Center celebrates 20 years
The public is invited to help the Sumter Welcome Center celebrate 20 years of hospitality April 26. Festivities will include a program and open house from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The center is on Interstate 20/59 at the Cuba, Ala., exit.
Deadline nears for LAWS class
The Lauderdale Association of Women Shooters class will take place April 20, at 9 a.m., at Bonita Lakes Mall Meeting Place, and April 27, at 8 a.m., at the Firing Range.
The class covers gun safety, selection, care and legal responsibilities and is conducted by NRA certified instructors. Those attending will have the opportunity to practice shooting skills once a month as member of LAWS.
