Meridian splits doubleheader

Meridian Community College grabbed a 6-5 win followed by a 4-2 loss to Shelton State in fast pitch softball action Wednesday. The homestanding Lady Eagles fell to a 22-4 Shelton State earlier in the month 3-2 and 11-6.
Shelton would get on the board first in the opening game with runs scored in the fifth inning. Shelton drove in three runs late in the fifth to make the score 3-0.
Meridian jumped on the board with big hits from Kaylora Bingham and Robin Holland in the bottom of the inning, driving in a pair of Lady Eagle runs. Shelton answered in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs. The Lady Eagles trailed Shelton 5-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. Meridian answered the pressure by scoring four late runs.
Morgan Wright and Dreka Shumpert started the Lady Eagles off with big hits to help load the bases with no outs. Shelton walked Bingham with the bases loaded to score the third run. Lindsey Stamm and Holland drove in the final three runs to make the score 6-5. Anne McLean was the winning pitcher for Meridian.

Meridian fell short to Shelton in the second game, 4-2.
Shelton scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.
The Lady Eagles had a hard time finding their rhythm in the second match.
Shelton scored it's final pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Meridian's Stephanie Dixon scored first off a Holland single making the score 4-1 ending the fourth inning.
The final score of the double header came late in the sixth inning. Stamm smashed a hit to right field that scored Shumpart. Meridian failed to score again leaving the final 4-2.
