DeShon Davis grabs 5K title

The Jeff Anderson Memorial Hospital held its 19th Annual Anderson Cup Road Race Saturday morning here in Meridian.
Joel Johnson was this years Race Director, and he was pleased with the turnout.
The race included a 5K Run, 2 mile Walk, and a Children's Fun Run.
DeShon Davis picked up his second Anderson Cup title, with a blazing time of 18:05. Paul Hart finished second, with 14 year old Christopher Martin a mere 17 seconds behind with a time of 19:27.
Davis is using the Anderson Cup Race as a training experience for bigger races down the road.
When asked about butterflies, Davis said he still has butterflies before any event.
Despite a 22 mile bike ride earlier in the morning, Davis still managed to pull the victory out in a timely manner.
Larry Sykes picked up the win in the 2 Mile Walk, with a finishing time of 19:15. Danny Lanier finished second with a time of 21:09, followed by Johnnie Bradley with a time of 21:16.
In the Fun Run, Henry Hooper took the first place trophy.
Micheal Mayerhoff ran for the first time in the Anderson Cup Race, and he said he enjoyed the experience.
The next event is the Bonita Classic, and its slated for May 4th.
