UWA gears up for Football Showcase

Put up the bats, and pull out the helmets and shoulder pads, because its spring football season for the University of West Alabama Tigers. The Tigers will host their 2nd Annual West Alabama Football Showcase this Friday and Saturday morning.
The Tigers are in the middle of one-of-two seasons right now.
UWA is working hard, to knock the 1-10 record off of Pippin in his second season, as head coach.
Events lined up for Friday are the Breakfast of Champions, featuring evangelist Ken Hutcherson, and players from the national championship era.
Also on tap for Friday will be a coaches clinic for Defensive Front Play, Defensive Perimeter Play, Special Teams Play, Offensive Play and Hal Mumme's Air Raid offense. The clinic will be open to anyone wanting to attend.
The group will break for a Pregame Meal in the Dining Hall at 12:30 pm.
Family, friends, alumni, and the general public will get to sit in on a Position Meeting with the Tigers, as they discuss the tactics of their respective positions with their coaches.
After the meetings, the team will break into a Pregame Warn-Up, followed by an intense scrimmage game. The winners of the Celebrity/Alumni Spring Football game will eat steak, while the losers scarf beans.
The Recruiting Forum will be held in the gymnasium at 7 pm, followed by a Year End Football Banquet at 8 pm.
Several awards will be given, including the Phil Puccio (Leadership Award), the Maxie Caldwell (Most Improved Player), the Aus Green (Scholar Athlete Award), and the cherished Most Valuable Player award.
The Combine is slated to begin Saturday morning at 9 am.
Donations boxes will be set up for the football team through out the events, no admission will be charged, but donations greatly appreciated. All proceeds go toward improving the quality of the program and the cost of the event.
