McRae's hosts May charity sale
McRae's Department Store is hosting its May Charity Sale to benefit local charities, Relay for life Teams and nonprofit organizations from 6 a.m.-10 a.m. May 4. The public is invited to attend.
Admission tickets can be purchased now until the day of the event from charity volunteers for $5. Tickets will be available the day of the event at McRae's or can be bought in advance from any McRae's sales associate.
All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit charities and nonprofit organizations. If any charity or nonprofit organization would like to participate call, McRae's for details at 484-7800.
MSO sets next concert date
The Meridian Symphony Orchestra will present the final concert of its 41st season on May 4. "Elijah" will begin at 8 p.m. in the Emma McCain Theater in Ivy Hall on the campus of Meridian Community College. Julian Patrick, a Meridian native, will be featured as the bass-baritone soloist.
Group reservations (10 or more) will be taken until May 1. Tickets are $20 each. Tickets are now on sale and will also be available at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Shayne Garrett in the MSO office at 693-2224.
Meridale hosting tours
Girls Scouts of Gulf Pines Council will host visits and tours of Camp Meridale from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. on April 28. Girls and their parents can tour the camp, find out about summer programs and meet some of the summer camp staff. Dr. Ron McGough will give free camp physicals 2 p.m.-4 p.m. The camp is seven miles south of Meridian on Causeyville Road. For more information, call 692-2903.
Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses' State Association to meet
The 17th Annual Convention of the Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses' Association will be held May 2-5 at the Grand Oasis Hotel and Convention Center in Gulfport. The theme for this year's convention is "Empowering and Mobilizing Communities and Professionals For Excellence in Healthcare." Continuing education credits will be provided. Serv-Safe classes set for May
The Clarke County Extension Service will sponsor a Serv-Safe class on May 6 and May 13 at the Multi-Purpose Building in Quitman.
The Mississippi Department of Health and the National Restaurant Association mandate that any establishment where food is served must have this training.
The cost is $100 for the two-day class, which includes the book and test.

Tickets for Jimmy Rodgers Festival on sale
Tickets are on sale for the Friday and Saturday night shows of the annual Jimmie Rodgers Festival on May 10 and 11. General admission is $10 either day or $15 for both. Tickets may be purchased at Good Vibrations, Music Emporium, Sound Shop at Bonita Lakes Mall or the Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau.
Steve Forbert and the North Mississippi All Stars will perform May 10th at Singing Breakman Park; Confederate Railroad will perform May 11. For more information contact Dawn Chappell at 482-8001.
May Fest 2002
St. Patrick School at 2700 Davis Street will host a MayFest from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 4. The event will feature food and concessions, a silent auction, music, dancing and a karate demonstration. The Fire Department, Metro Ambulance and other civic response teams will visit with children.
