On Wednesday, Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus will join more than 2,000 organizations across the United States and Canada as a local host for the Hospice Foundation of America's ninth Annual Living With Grief teleconference.
The program will provide insight and practical suggestions to professionals who regularly deal with aging clients, as well as their families and friends, according to organizers. The broadcast will explore challenges and opportunities that older persons experience as they face loss and make critical decisions about end-of-life issues. It will be moderated by Cokie Roberts of ABC News and will feature a distinguished panel of experts.
The panel will include George Blackwell, D.Min., pastor of the Good Neighbor Baptist Church in Newark, N.J.; Kenneth J. Doka, Ph.D., Lutheran minister and professor of gerontology at the College of New Rochelle; Robert Butler, M.D., CEO, International Longevity Center; Patricia Kelley, CRNH, clinical director, Montgomery Hospice; Miriam Moss, M.A., of the Philadelphia Geriatric Center; Phyllis Rolfe Silverman, Ph.D., MSS, Associate in Social Welfare at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School; and J. R. Williams, M.D., president, Foundation for End of Life Care.
The teleconference is produced by Hospice Foundation of America, a non-profit organization that works to educate healthcare professionals and the families they serve in issues relating to terminal illness, grief and bereavement.
The program is offered free of charge. Continuing education contact hours (CEUs) will be available through the Hospice Foundation of America for nurses, social workers, counselors, funeral directors, clergy, psychologists, physicians, EMS personnel, EAPs and nursing home administrators who desire to apply. There is a $25 CEU processing fee.
