Meridian coach Thad George will take a full team to the State 5A Tennis Championships. The state tournament is set for next Monday and Tuesday at either Parham Bridges in Jackson or the Ridgeland Courts.
Meridian won the Division 5-5A title on Thursday. Brandon was second followed by Natchez and Wayne County.
David Ray won the boys singles draw. Ray was a finalist in 5A last year. He is 14-0 on the season.
The Wildcat doubles team of Joseph Johnson and Michael Seto took the boys doubles crown.
The Meridian girls doubles team of Courtney Harris and Kelly Brown won the divisional title.
Finishing second, but still qualifying for the state tournament were girls singles player Summer Brown and the mixed doubles team of Bentley Crawford and Kelly Sterling.
Singles players and doubles teams are currently being ranked and the seed draws for next week's state tournament will be announced later in the week.
Ray will probably draw a No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the event. Harris and Brown could also get a good seed.
The team competition, however, will be stout says George.
