The Lamar School golf team has been on a roll all spring. And with the postseason just a week away, coach Doyle Bryan was hoping for a good showing Monday in the second Parklane Invitational in the last two weeks. He got it. Lamar fired a 310 Monday, edging host Parklane by six shots to take the match at Fernwood Country Club after winning last week's tourney by 16 strokes with an unheard of 298.
East Central Community College scored two runs each in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to knock off homestanding East Mississippi 8-3 in junior college baseball action from late Sunday. The Warriors trailed 2-1 after two innings of play, but held the Lions scoreless until the bottom of the eight. The Warriors, who got three hits from former Neshoba Central standout Turk Stovall, outhit East Mississippi 14-7.

DEMOPOLIS, Ala. Paul Phillips returned to his birthplace Wednesday night and played like he was home. With eight family members, several college recruiters and a Los Angeles Dodgers scout in the grandstand, Phillips went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI to lead the No. 1-ranked Meridian to at 6-2 win over Central Alabama.
Wilson Allen shot a tournament-high 75 to lead Brandon to the Division 5-5A golf title Wednesday at Castle Woods in Jackson. Meridian, with a score of 328, was second in the tournament. Murrah was third at 422. For Meridian, Nelson Valentine was the low scorer at 76, with Clarke Weems one stroke back at 77. Rounding out the scorers for the Wildcats were John Rea at 86, Tommy Robinson at 89 and Walter Whitehead at 99.

Although there weren't too many people in town as exhausted as Jake Ammon Thursday night, the Meridian High School head track coach still found the energy to crack a smile. Because after battling the sun and paperwork for hours, Ammon was finally able to sink in a little victorious joy. His Wildcat squad practically ran away with the Division 5-5A race, tallying 127 1/2 points. Hattiesburg's 67 points were distant, but that performance was as close as any team in the division would come to the Cats.

Regina Williams
A standout volleyball player for the Meridian High School Lady Wildcats, Regina Williams is also enjoying some success in track and field.
Williams is a medal hope for the Lady Wildcat track team in the girls high jump. She won the Division 5-5A title last Tuesday at Meridian Community College by clearing 5-feet.
Williams was Meridian's leading scorer on the volleyball team that made it to the state semifinals. She also played on the Lady Wildcat basketball team.
