MHS to host State Cheer Competition
The Mississippi High School Activities Association is proud to announce that the State Cheerleading Competition for the up-coming school year will be held at Meridian High School. The competition will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002. Three regional competitions will be held prior to Dec. 14th.
This is the eighth year for state competition. The MHSAA is expecting approximately 65-70 squads competing at the state competition. This is the first time for Meridian High School to host this event.

Eagles split doubleheader
Meridian Community College split a doubleheader losing the first game to host Jefferson State 8-7 while winning the last 3-0.
Tyler Scarbrough was the leading hitter for the Eagles in the first game with a two run home run. The homer was the tenth for Scarbrough this season. Chris Wright contributed two RBIs and a single.
Todd Doolittle received the winning pitcher honors in the second match while Justin Rayborn got the save. Nathan Sanders hit his eleventh home run for the season to lead the team in homers. Brian Page contributed an RBI double to help the Eagles get the win.
MCC will play host to Shelton State Wednesday at Scaggs Field starting at 3:00 p.m. The doubleheader will be the last game of the season for the Eagles.

Tornadoes rally for playoff win
The Tornadoes of Philadelphia took a comeback 7-5 win over Leakesville Friday in 3A prep baseball playoff action. Philly scoring five runs in the seventh inning to grab the victory. The game was the first of the second round.
Tornadoes' pitcher Hunter Holley picked up the win with four strikeouts. Holley is now 12-1 for the season.
Philly's Tyler Threadgill had two hits for the Tornadoes while Jonathan Booker had two hits including a double. Tyler Rounsaville also had a double.
The Tornadoes improved to 19-9 overall as they prepare to finish off the series today, 1:00 p.m. at Philadelphia.
