Yousri Elmejdouri won yet another race on a wet Saturday morning at Bonita Lakes.
Elmejdouri finished first in the eighth-annual Bonita Classic with a time of 15 minutes and 39 seconds. Gedama Gee Ele of Stone Mt., Ga., came in second with a time of 16:50 to grab second place. Mike Thrailkill finished in a time of 17:48 while Jason Vega finished at 19:13. Mike Neal finished out the top five with a time of 19:18.
Brandy Gamblin took first place for the females by finishing 17th overall in a time of 22:08. Wanda Kennedy followed with a time of 23:04 while Kim Monsour rounded out the top three females with a time of 23:13.
Despite the threat of rain, around 103 runners competed in the 5K run. The day also included a 2 Mile Walk and a Fun Run for the kids. Each year all the proceeds from the race go to Wesley House. Usually around $7,000 is raised for Wesley House each year.
Danny Lanier of Little Rock was the winner of the 2 Mile Walk with a time of 21:03. Samuel Martin finished second with a time of 21:14 while Libby Eifert rounded out the top three with time of 22:51.
In the Fun Run for the kids, 11-year-old Brittany Roberts finished first with a time of 6:16 while 12-year-old William Fears finished a second behind her at 6:17 to place second. 8-year-old Nathan Fincher finished third with a time of 6:38.
After the races, runners were treated to food from Outback and names were drawn for giveaways from the many sponsors involved in the race. Awards were then given to the top finishers in each age division.
