District 1 Supervisor Hank Florey made a wise decision last week when he reversed his position on a Lauderdale County zoo project. It was proof that voters still have some influence over their elected officials. Florey said he was flooded with complaints from his constituents over his support of the zoo project.
We are pleased that Florey had the courage to revisit, and change, his position. The so-called zoo was a waste of precious county resources, including money and time. With all of the other major concerns floating around, the zoo should never have been a priority.
In this same connection, we applaud District 3 Supervisor, and board president, Craig Hitt and District 5 Supervisor Ray Boswell in this case for sticking to their guns all along in opposing the zoo.
