ECCC holds 73rd commencement

DECATUR More than 430 graduates received diplomas Friday at East Central Community College's Warrior Stadium.
Graduating sophomore Lana Rogers of Carthage delivered the commencement address. Rogers, a music education major with an emphasis in piano, is a President's List Scholar and was named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Mississippi Academic Second Team.
She was presented the George O. Bierkoe Distinguished Member Award and the Distinguished Regional Officer Award during the Honor Society's International Convention.
Rogers was also named to the 2002 East Central Community College Hall of Fame, the highest honor a student can receive.
Another member of the class of 2002, Rebecca Germany of Union, provided special music for the ceremony. Germany, whose major is music education with a vocal emphasis, sang "What Tomorrow Brings." She is a President's List Scholar and president of Phi Theta Kappa.
Other graduating sophomores selected to participate in the commencement program included Matt Davis of Decatur, who delivered the invocation, and Kathy Jones of Philadelphia, who delivered the benediction.
Davis, an engineering major, is a President's List scholar and was named to the Phi Theta Kappa All Mississippi Academic First Team. He was named the College's Higher Education Appreciation Day: Working Toward Academic Excellence student and was recently inducted into the College's 2002 Hall of Fame.
Jones is a member of the Warrior Wall O' Sound Marching Band and the ECCC Gospel Choir.
ECCC President Dr. Phil A. Sutphin awarded degrees and certificates to the graduates.
