OXFORDEvery hitter in the Arkansas lineup took part in the action in the seventh inning Saturday.
The Razorbacks plated ten runs in the frame, including every single man in their lineup, to defeat 12th ranked Ole Miss 11-5 in front of 3,048 at Swayze Field.
Arkansas trailed 4-0 before their rally. Razorback catcher Cody Clark said the hitting was contagious.
Ryan Fox and Andrew Wishy each had one-out RBI hits to cut it to 4-2 and put runners on second and third. Adam Yates relieved Rebel starter Alan Horne on the mound.
Arkansas center fielder Michael Conner said that knocking out Horne gave the Razorbacks confidence. Horne had yielded just three hits and faced 19 hitters through six innings.
And the Razorbacks had their way with the Rebel bullpen.
Clark tied the game with a single to left. Clay Goodwin singled and Scott Hode reached on an error to load the bases.
Rebel third baseman Jonathan Swearingen fielded Kirk McConnell's shot, but catcher Charlie Waite couldn't handle the throw, allowing Clark to score the go ahead run. Goodwin then came in on a passed ball.
After Scott Bridges was hit by a pitch, Conner hit a three-run triple and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Horne gave up four runs and six hits in 6.1 innings of work.
Arkansas added a run in the eighth. Wishy led off with a single and scored on Clark's double.
The Rebels led off the ninth with three infield singles but could manage only one run.
Ole Miss took the early lead with three runs in the third.
Swearingen and Waite singled and Sterbens doubled-in Swearingen. Seth Smith singled, scoring Waite and Sterbens. A two-out Drew Rogers single put runners on the corners.
Scott Roehl then relieved Gary Hogan Jr. for Arkansas and ended the threat.
Roehl (3-0) went the final 6.1 innings. He allowed two runs and eight hits while striking out seven.
Yates (1-1) picked up the loss for Ole Miss. He gave up three unearned runs without getting an out.
The Rebels made all three of their errors in the seventh inning.
Bryce Morrison hit a 400-foot solo homerun in the fourth for the Rebels.
Sterbens went 3-for-5 for Ole Miss to extend his SEC hitting streak to 26 games. He also has a 16-game hitting streak.
The two teams meet again tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Ole Miss will throw either J.R. Pickens (7-2, 3.35) or Mike Gray (3-0, 1.93). Arkansas has yet to announce its starter.
