The big day is approaching quickly and the countdown to the American Soap Box Derby Association's Soap Box Derby in Meridian is winding down.
There will be a rally race to give the guys a time to practice and run the course on May 25 at 9 a.m. and the real race will be June 8.
With the day of the race approaching, people will get a chance to get a look at the cars that will be competing. The cars will be on display in the center court of the Bonita Lakes Mall on Saturday for people to look at. The cars will displayed from 9 a.m. until about 12 p.m.
At this time 14 drivers are signed up to race in the big race. The drivers will be there and at least 12 cars will be in the mall. Danny Hill will be there to answer questions for those wanting to know more information about the race.
There also are about two extra cars that can be used if someone would still like to sign up. The time to build a car has just about run out but Hill said two cars are available if someone is still interested in signing up to race. The ages competing in the race will be from nine-years-old to 16-years-old.
The big day of the race will be coming up at 9 a.m. on June 8. The boys will be decked out for the big race and will be taken around town in the trolley car to wave to the spectators. The cars will be ready to race and the spectators will be able to enjoy the competitive racing.
The course will run down 23rd Avenue between 8th Street and 12th Street.
With the big race day approaching, get a close look at the cars at the mall on Saturday. It will be the first time in decades that Meridian holds the race so don't miss out on the action.
