Carmichael switches political parties

State Sen. Videt Carmichael has changed his official political party affiliation to where his heart has been all along. Republicans are welcoming him into their ranks after he announced last Tuesday he was making the change.
Don't look for his legislative voting record to change much. It already reflects most of the conservative principles espoused by the GOP.
Other Republicans in the Legislature believe Carmichael's move will strengthen their position in a state lawmaking body dominated by Democrats. We agree with that assessment.
Sen. Tommy Moffatt, R-Gautier, may have best summed it up when he said, Carmichael's move "sends a message to some of the other people who have tendencies to vote conservative Republican to make the switch. It doesn't take but a few more … then we can start doing little more of the Republican philosophy."
What a concept.
