June brings a bevy of summer camps for athletes wanting to improve their skills.
At least five camps have either begun or are set to begin within the next week in the Meridian Star area.
The two that are already underway are at East Central Community College for a pair of youth softball and baseball camps.
Three camps are set to begin next Monday.
Meridian High School will be the site of the Wildcat Basketball Camp. Head coach Ernie Watson, along with assistants Sherrod Miller and Marty Everett, will be on hand to provide instruction for youths in third grade through eighth.
The camp will run Monday, June 3, until June 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost will be $35 per camper.
Campers will learn about basketball fundamentals along with competitions in free throws, hot shot, 3-on-3 basketball and league games.
Meridian Community College will hold the MCC/Rush Baseball Camp from June 3-7. The camp will be for boys and girls from the ages of 5-14. Cost will be $115 per camper. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

East Central has two youth camps underway in baseball and girls softball. Both camps will run through Thursday.
On June 3, ECCC women's softball coach Mike Anderson will run a fast-pitch camp. The cost will be $45 per camper. He can be contacted at ECCC at (877) 462-3222.
East Central baseball coach Jake Yarborough will hold a second baseball camp on June 17-19. This camp will be for players aged 13 to high school juniors. The camp will be held at Jamie Clark Memorial Stadium and will cost $40 per camper. Yarborough can be reached at 1-877-462-3222.
The East Central CC basketball staff will hold a junior boys camp from June 3-5 at the Warriors Gym. This will be the first of four basketball camps at ECCC.
The junior high boys camp will be for players in the fourth through eighth grades. The cost will be $145 for full-time campers and $110 for day campers and it will be same for all four camps.

The senior high boys camp is set for June 9-12. This will be for players in grades nine through 12. The junior high girls camp is set for June 16-19 and will be for girls in the fourth through eighth grade. The senior high girls camp is set for June 23-26.
Another area camp will be the West Alabama boys basketball camp. The camp will be for boys 8-14 and is set for July 8-12. The camp will run for four hours each day and the cost is $50 per camper. The contact for the camp is coach Chris Coker who can be reached at (205) 652-3524.
